Welcome to the University of Nottingham

Wing Chun Kung Fu

The UoN Wing Chun club was started in 1997, by Sifu David Blackley. Now, over 20 years later, it is still running within the University of Nottingham.

Wing Chun is probably the most popular form of southern Chinese Kung Fu that is practiced throughout the world today.

Wing Chun theories are based around straight lines, simplicity and efficiency of movement and unlike other martial arts there are not a lot of complex forms or katas to learn. The hand and foot techniques as well as the strikes within the Wing Chun system are very effective, easy to learn and very easy to use.

A major part of Wing Chun is relaxation. In order to fight more efficiently, and with far more speed, you need to be relaxed. Wing Chun is renowned for its fast hand speed and striking techniques, as well as its ability to turn defence into counter and attack within a few seconds. Wing Chun will enable the user to overcome any opponent regardless of their strength or size.

That's not to say it is just for those new to martial arts. Those with belts in other disciplines will also learn new things, as Wing Chun's close range technique is a great addition to anyone's knowledge of martial arts and self-defence.
