In our club, we have 3 learning pathways or programmes that we teach at different times of the year to students of different experience levels:
Eternal Revolution Pathway (beginners – advanced students)
These lessons form the main body of what we teach during the first and second term. This is a spiral learning programme where the themes repeat in a cyclical fashion, with students learning more complex theories and concepts every time they repeat a theme. This ensures that students of all experiences and levels can take part, with more advanced students covering more advanced concepts. It also means that if a student misses a particular lesson, they will always have chance to cover the theme in the next cycle.
The themes are:
• Distance fighting: upper body concepts
• Distance fighting: lower body concepts
• Distance fighting: tactics
• Close range fighting: earning the specialism
• Close range fighting: chi sau
• Close range fighting: tactics
• Street fighting
Black Medicine Pathway (intermediate – advanced students)
This pathway is taught during the third term and via workshops that occur throughout the year. The aim of this pathway is to provide a thorough understanding of body mechanics and how this concept applies to fighting, particularly in more specialised situations.
Topics covered include:
• All 6 Wing Chun forms
• Structure destroying grappling concepts
• Ground fighting concepts
• Basic knife defence
• Group fighting
• Advanced striking
Immortals Pathway (advanced students)
This is the most advanced pathway, aimed at Brown sash students and above. This pathway is taught through ad hoc advanced classes and during the Summer holiday period. Advanced theories and concepts are used to fully customise the student’s martial art as well as a focus on complex Wing Chun tactics.
Topics include:
• Advanced energy work
• Hybrid fighting styles
• Adaptation
• Identifying opponents’ weaknesses
